What do you mean exactly by what happened to him? He's okay, living his life with his mother.
Okay, but seriously, if you mean why there's currently no new comics about him, that's because I kinda don't have time for those right now as I do some other stuff, but I would say I have ideas for them since "Sam's Sharp Fear" one which, by the way, might include some other canon characters like Abbie, Miss Bloomie and Miss Thavel. Also Sam might be redisigned a bit since at the moment he looks too much like Mister Compass.
